Greater Cleveland Congregations is organizing and training parents to make the changes in schools they see as critical to their children's success. A full-time paid organizer is building relationships with school staff in a number of troubled Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) partner schools as well with parents to help them define the changes they want and to learn how to be effective change agents.
Our Work With Schools
Each of our partner schools has a core team consisting of the principal, teachers, parents and students. We bring these teams together for trainings to teach organizing principles and to help them build relationships with each other. The result: a collective that is organized well enough to win on common issues.
In 2018, this approach culminated in a 175-person action held at New Tech Collinwood High School, lead by Collinwood students, where CMSD CEO Eric Gordon directly responded to the issues brought by school teams.
