GCC Takes Its Battle for Democracy Campaign to Cleveland Neighborhoods

Written by GCC

Our Battle for Democracy continues this summer as we take our campaign to five Cleveland neighborhoods to talk with voters about the 2021 Cleveland mayoral campaign as well as vaccines. Our canvassing efforts are focused on the Central, Fairfax, Glenville, Lee-Harvard and Slavic Village neighborhoods, which have seen historically low voter turnouts in recent elections.

To date we have canvassed in four neighborhoods -- Central, Slavic Villages (two areas), and Lee-Harvard -- knocking on 236 doors and having 81 conversations about voting and vaccines. Upcoming canvassing includes June 26 from 9:30am-1:30pm in Fairfax; July 10 from noon-4pm in Central; and July 11 from 1-pm in Slavic Village.

We are recruiting as many canvassers as we can from our five targeted neighborhoods, as well as from our GCC member congregations and individuals from the overall community who would like to get involved. We provide canvassers with thorough training about how to engage people around voting and vaccinations.

If you are interested in getting involved in our Battle for Democracy work, contact DeAnna DeForest, GCC's Canvassing Coordinator, at deanna@greaterclevelandcongregations.org
